We have been involved in well over 60 megagames over the last 18 years, and this is a list of the main ones, and just a rough idea of what they involved.
1980
Memphis Mangler, about village clearance in
Vietnam, by Paddy Griffith. Not by Megagame Makers, but the first game to be
called a megagame. This game started off the whole idea of megagames and was an
inspiration to us all.
1984
The Battle for Kirovograd, about the epic battle on the Russian Front in 1944, by Andy Grainger.
1986
Guns of August, about the opening campaign in 1914, designed by Paddy Griffith with some small help from Andy Grainger.
1987
Blood & Thunder, about pirates of the Carribean in the 17th Century, by Jim Wallman.
1988
Operation Market Garden, about the famous 'Bridge Too Far' ground and airborne operation of 1944, by Jim Wallman.
1989
Battle of Britain, about the operations of 'The Few' in 1940, by Andy Grainger. Replayed on the 50th anniversary in 1990, complete with live fly past!
Final Frontier, the first science fiction megagame, set around the 'Star Trek' universe, by Jim Wallman. Ran again over subsequent years, in a number of variants, 6 more times, including the largest SF game, FF3, which had 169 participants.
Clouds In The West, about the second Punic War by Andy Grainger.
1990
Springtime For Hitler, about the politcal and military situation in the spring of 1940 in western Europe, by Jim Wallman.
1991
Dreams of Empire, about the politics and military events in Revolutionary Europe of the 18th century, by Brian Cameron.
Breed of Heroes, about the war in the Western Desert in 1942, by Andy Grainger.
1992
Master of Europe, about Napoleon's critical year of 1813, and his military and political crises, by Jim Wallman and Brian Cameron.
Berserker! another SF megagame, this time based around the eponymous books by Fred Saberhagen, by Jim Wallman. Replayed a further two times in subsequent years, with scenario variantions (then see Serenity Station, below).
Unfinished Business, about the Arab-Israeli War of 1973, by Terry Martin. Replayed in 1994.
1993
Crisis in Britannia, about the Roman invasion of Britain in AD43, from both the military and political perspectives, by Jim Wallman, Brian Cameron, and Andy Grainger.
Starship Trooper, based around the famous SF book by Robert A Heinlein, By Jim Wallman and Brian Cameron.
Fire and Steel, about low level tank battles in WW2, by Jim Wallman.
1994
Assault on Warlock Mountain, a first fantasy role playing megagame, by Jim Wallman.
Ancien Regime, about the mainstream of European politics in the mid 18th century, by Brian Cameron.
Sengoku, about power politics and warfare in 16th century Japan, by Jim Wallman.
Death of Fascism, about the crucial year of 1944, and dealing with the whole political and military sweep of events throughout the whole of europe, from Normandy to Novgorod, by Jim Wallman. Replayed in even larger form (including the Pacific War) in 1995 - largest ever megagame with 173 participants.
'1494', about power politics and campaigning in renaissance Italy of the 15th century, by Brian Cameron.
1995
Send A Gunboat, about the growth of world empires and colonial expansionism during the last part of the 19th century, by Jim Wallman and Brian Cameron.
Home Before the Leaves Fall, about the political and military crisis of the summer of 1914, by Jon Casey.
War Without An Enemy, about the crucial political and military opening stages of the English Civil War, by Brian Cameron.
1996
Spanish Ulcers. A military and political game abou the Spanish War of Independence, or the Peninsular War 1809-1811 as it is known to British historians. By Bernie Ganley
Return to Yendor. A rambling role playing game for 60+ players, set in a fantasy city. The scenario and background drawn from the previous 'Warlock Mountain' games, but an entirely new game system.
Cruel Void. A tactical space fighter game with players developing their characters and abilities over a series of missions, aiming to develop a career and get promoted etc. By Jim Wallman. Replayed in 1997.
God Wills It. A game about the First Crusade of 1096, in which Franks, Byzantines and Turks struggle for their own, very special objectives. By Terry Martin.
Serenity Station : Further development of the SF Berserker series, this time fighting an unknown alien species and some invisible hunters! By Jim Wallman with help from Brian Cameron.
1997
AD69 : The Year of 4 Emperors, a great political game of the Roman EMpire in one of its greatest succession crises. A new game, inspired by Mike McNally and Steve Ede-Borrett and written by Jim Wallman and Brian Cameron.
The Russian Civil War; a game of the huge upheaval in Russia and the birth pangs of the Soveit Union. By Bernie Ganley
