COME TO A KING

|
By Andrew Hadley (FULLY BOOKED) A game about the dynastic struggles over the kingdoms of Britain, Ireland and Scandinavia in the second decade of the eleventh century. It covers the decade from 1014 onwards, which historically saw civil war and the Danish conquest of England, the great battle of Clontarf in Ireland, invasions and changes to the Anglo-Scottish border as well as the rise of usurpers in Wales. Wars also raged across Scandinavia as exiles returned home and a great but short-lived empire rose, spanning the North Sea. Players will take the roles of princes, warlords and churchmen to fight for their families' futures. They will manage their lands, lead armies, engage in diplomacy and perhaps even seek a throne (or more). Everyone faces opportunities as well as horrendous risks. Who will you trust? One of the key decisions most players will face is which King to recognise - whose councils to attend, hence 'Come to a King'. Which King's summons will you obey? Or will you make yourself one instead? This game borrows some of the mechanisms from Come One and Eorl (the megagame set in 1045-1055), but updated and streamlined. It also has a wider geographic scope, partly depending on player numbers and interest.
